The old 5834-4, while smaller, was nothing more than a sensor that would allow for a system to be armed and disarmed. The new key fob from Honeywell is more than just remote activation for your security system. It is a 4 button, 8 program mini computer that seamlessly communicates with your entire system.
In this video we will walk you through the differences between the SIXFOB and the old 5834-4 key fobs that were used with the LYNX security systems which preceded the new Lyric security system.
The first thing to note is that the SIXFOB key fob is an actual mini computer. It receives firmware updates over a secure wireless connection. As the video will show: the four buttons on the key fob are used for Arm Away, Arm Stay, Disarm, and the fourth is a programmable button that is generally used for a panic.
It is larger than the 5834 key fob and can only be used with one system. In fact the entire 5854 key fob will fit inside the footprint of the Lyric SIXFOB key fob. While it is larger and bulkier, it is also more durable.
One other disadvantage is the ability to connect to multiple systems. The video tutorial will explain this in detail. The SIXFOB key fob can only be connected to a single system while the 5834 could be connected to multiple systems. If you control two systems, say at home and a business, you would either need two SIXFOB key fobs, or continue to use the 5854 key fob.
An advantage over the 5854 fob are the indication LED lights. On the 5854 key fob is had a single LED light in a single color. The light was a single directional light that just let you know the alert was sent.
Our video shows that in the SIXFOB key fob, there are 2 lights in two colors (both lights red or green) and is a bi-directional communication with the system. It alerts when the signal is sent and when it is received, providing you with much more control and information about your system.
Another feature is that the 4 buttons are actually programmable with the control panel and system to run 8 different alerts. Each single button press make up 4 actions. You can also press the top two buttons simultaneously for a 5th action, or the bottom two buttons together for a 6th.
As the video explains, pressing both the left side buttons will result in a 7th action and the right two buttons for the 8th and final action. Combining this with the Lyric control system will enable you to activate and deactivate a wide range of options within your home.
You can view our other videos to learn how to program the Lyric SIXFOB key fob, and how to link it to a control panel. If you have any concerns about the Lyric SIXFOB key fob, our video will walk you through getting to know your new key fob.
