In this video, Bryce shows how to install a CR123A battery into a Honeywell 5816 door and window contact. This type of battery is commonly known as a camera battery, and it is basically a slightly shorter and fatter AA battery. This battery will keep the sensor powered for about three to five years.

The alarm system will display a trouble alert when the battery for the 5816 is low. The battery can be replaced by first opening the device's cover. This is done by pressing the tab on the device and pulling the cover off the device. The old battery can then be taken out, and a new one can be inserted. The user must make sure that the positive and negative ends of the battery are facing the proper directions. The device will power on automatically as soon as a battery is inserted.

The 5816 is part of the Honeywell 5800 Series of wireless sensors. It provides a signal range of approximately 200 feet, and it will need to be programmed with the panel. The sensor operates at a wireless frequency of 345 MHz, and it will work with any Honeywell or 2GIG Alarm System. The sensor is great for monitoring any standard door or window.

The 5816 works in a manner that is similar to almost any other surface-mounted door and window contact. The device consists of a sensor and a magnet. The sensor is installed on the door or window frame, and the magnet is installed on the door or window itself. For best results, the magnet should be installed within a half inch of the sensor. When the door or window is opened, the magnet will separate from the sensor. This will cause a reed switch inside the 5816 to activate. The device will then send a signal to the alarm system to let it know that the door or window has been opened. The system will then perform an action based on the Response Type for the sensor.
