Nest Thermostat: Is the Honeywell Lyric Alarm Compatible?

In this video, Joe explains how the Nest Thermostat is not compatible with the Honeywell Lyric Controller. The Nest is a WIFI programmable thermostat that can be operated remotely through a compatible interactive service. However, the Honeywell Total Connect 2.0 service has blocked Nest integration.

An important consideration for the Nest Thermostat is that it is not a Z-Wave device. This is a WIFI thermostat, and it must communicate through a WIFI network. While the device will not work with Total Connect 2.0, it will work with the Alarm.com service instead. Any panel that is connected with Alarm.com can support the Nest Thermostat. This works by having the system first send a signal to Alarm.com. From there, Alarm.com will forward the command to the thermostat over the WIFI network. Some great systems that support Alarm.com include the 2GIG GC3 and the Qolsys IQ Panel 2. A user should ideally select one of these systems if they want to use a Nest Thermostat. A great aspect of Alarm.com is that it will allow both WIFI and Z-Wave thermostats to easily integrate with smart scenes.

For owners of the Honeywell Lyric Controller, there are other thermostats that can be used much in the same manner as the Nest. The Lyric System operates as an entirely functional Z-Wave controller, meaning that Z-Wave thermostats can be used with the system. One example of this is the Honeywell ZWSTAT. Additionally, any Lyric Thermostat can be used with the Lyric Controller. This includes Lyric Thermostats that operate across a WIFI network. However, only WIFI thermostats that integrate with the Lyric at the panel level can be integrated into smart scenes. Some examples of these thermostats include the Lyric Round Thermostat and the Honeywell T6 Pro WIFI. Meanwhile, any Z-Wave thermostat can be integrated into smart scenes.
