What Is Cellular Alarm Monitoring
In this video, Joe talks about cellular alarm monitoring and the benefits it provides. Cellular monitoring means that the alarm system uses cellular communication to send and receive signals. An alarm system needs a compatible cellular communication module to use receive cellular monitoring service.
In order for a system to receive monitoring service, it must have some method of sending outbound signals and alerts. Cellular service is one of the most popular methods for doing this. Most security experts actually agree that cellular communication is the optimal communication path for an alarm system.
The reason that cellular is superior over other communication paths, such as IP communication, is because of the outstanding reliability of cellular communication. Cellular communication is not affected by power outages, and it is very uncommon for the service to go down or be made unavailable. Cellular service is also very fast, and it offers speeds that are right on par with WIFI.
However, not all cellular networks are created equal, and the cellular network that the system connects with is determined by the cellular module that is installed. When purchasing a new cellular communicator, Alarm Grid recommends obtaining an LTE cellular communicator if possible. This will allow the system to connect with an LTE cellular network.
LTE stands for "Long-Term Evolution", and it represents the latest advances in cellular communication technology. LTE provides the fastest speeds available, and the connection is very reliable. Additionally, cellular service providers have promised to continue providing support for the LTE networks many years into the future. By obtaining an LTE cellular communicator, a user is "future-proofing" their system for continued service.
Additionally, different communicators utilize service from different cellular service providers, such as AT&T and Verizon. This has nothing to do with the network that a user has for their regular cellular service, and we recommend using whichever service works best in the area. In any case, the communicator that is used must be compatible with the alarm system.
