Can I Connect A Wired Smoke To My 2GIG GC3?

In this video, Joe talks about how a hardwired smoke detector cannot be used with a 2GIG GC3 Panel. If a user wants to set up a smoke detector with their GC3 System, the easiest option is usually to use a wireless smoke detector. They can also use a takeover module like an FF345 to integrate smokes.

The 2GIG GC3 System has two ports on its circuit board for hardwired devices. These are terminals 6 and 7 on the board. However, it would be a mistake to assume that these terminals could be used with hardwired smoke detectors. These hardwired zones will not support normally open devices like smoke detectors. Instead, they can only support normally closed contacts.

Fortunately, there are other options for users who want to use smoke detectors with their 2GIG GC3 System. The most obvious is to simply use compatible wireless smoke detectors with the GC3. The 2GIG GC3 works with wireless sensors that operate at 345 MHz. Wireless Honeywell and 2GIG Smoke Detectors will work with the system. The device will learn-in with one of the system's wireless zones, and the user can adjust the settings for the smoke as needed.

Another option is to use a compatible takeover module, like the Encore FF345. A takeover module will also enroll with one of the panel's wireless zones. The device will be placed directly next to a conventional smoke detector, and it will continuously listen for the sound of an activated smoke detector. Once the FF345 detects the sound of an activated smoke detector, it will alert the system to the fire.

Remember, integrating smokes with an alarm system has several advantages. By setting up a smoke detector with an alarm system, a user can receive automatic emergency dispatch in the event of a fire. A user can also receive an immediate notification via text and/or email if their smoke detector activates while they are away.

NOTE: In this video, Joe mentions that the hardwired zones are zones 6 and 7, he means they use terminals 6 and 7. Also, Joe mentions the 5806 is a heat detector. The 5806W3 is a smoke-only detector, and the 5809SS is a heat only detector.
