In this video, Jorge talks about using a Honeywell Lyric Controller without the Total Connect 2.0 platform. While it is possible to not use Total Connect, most users will want access to the service. Total Connect offers many features that greatly enhance a user's overall alarm monitoring experience.

An important thing to remember about Total Connect 2.0 is that the service can be accessed using an internet connection, and cellular service is not required for an alarm system to connect with the platform. Other interactive service platforms, like Alarm.com, require the system to use a cellular connection to access the service. While we always recommend using a cellular connection with an alarm system, being able to use internet-only reduces the requirements needed to access TC2.

Any monitored Lyric Controller System will use WIFI and/or cellular connectivity. A WIFI card is built into the system, so assuming that there is WIFI in the building, a user has no reason not to the connect the system to the local WIFI network. Once the system is connected with WIFI, it will be able to access Total Connect 2.0. The only thing an end user will need is an alarm monitoring plan that includes access to the service. In other words, a user will not need to purchase a separate cellular communicator or pay for a cellular alarm monitoring plan to use Total Connect 2.0 with their Lyric Controller.

There are only a couple of reasons not to the TC2 with a Lyric Controller. The most obvious of which is that the system is unmonitored and being used as a local sounder only. The other is that the user has a very basic and limited alarm monitoring plan that does not include access to Total Connect. In that case, the system would need to be connected with a central station for monitoring.

Remember, accessing Total Connect 2.0 will allow a user to control their system remotely. The service can be accessed through a web browser or by using the Total Connect 2.0 Mobile App on Android and iOS devices. Through Total Connect 2.0, a user can arm and disarm their system, check the current status of security sensors, control Z-Wave smart home devices, view the live feed of security cameras and more.
