Self-Monitoring an Interlogix Simon XTi or XTi-5

In this video, Joe explains how a user can use self-monitoring with an Interlogix Simon XTi or XTi-5 System. Self-monitoring means that the system is not connected with a central station. Instead, a user receives alerts regarding system events so that they can contact local authorities on their own.

Self-monitoring can be a viable option for users who cannot receive central station monitoring, as well as those who do not benefit greatly from automatic emergency dispatch. The one thing to remember though is that any user who receives self-monitoring services must be able to reliably contact the authorities during an emergency situation. If a user fails to notice a system event, or if they do not act quickly upon receiving an alert, then an emergency situation may go unreported until it is too late.

A user who has an alarm system that uses self-monitoring can receive alerts through text and/or email. This way, they can be notified even when they are away from their system. Alarm Grid recommends that any user who receives self-monitoring services keep a regular eye on their smartphone so that they can receive any system alerts and notifications that are coming through. Remember, every second counts during an emergency situation.

Users should understand that alarm systems cannot contact end user directly. Any system alert that is sent out to the end user must go through an interactive service platform first. This platform is what makes self-monitoring possible. The interactive service platform then forwards the alert to the end user via text and/or email. In the case of the Simon XTi and Simon XTi-5, the interactive service that is used is Alarm.com. Connecting with Alarm.com requires that an Alarm.com cellular communicator is installed and activated with the system. A user cannot receive self-monitoring services for a Simon XTi or XTi-5 unless the system is active with Alarm.com.
