In this video, Joe explains how it is technically possible to use a Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Alarm System without the Alarm.com service. However, a user will lose a lot of functionality for their panel by doing this. In fact, without access to Alarm.com, the IQ Panel 2 can only serve as a local noisemaker.

When the IQ Panel 2 sends out any type of outbound alert, this signal passes through the Alarm.com servers. Therefore, the system must be connected with Alarm.com for any type of alarm monitoring. This is true whether the user has a central station monitoring plan or a self-monitoring plan. Without access to Alarm.com, the Qolsys IQ Panel 2 cannot be monitored. Right out of the box, an IQ Panel 2 System includes a built-in WIFI communicator and an integrated LTE cellular communicator. Both IP and cellular connectivity can be used to speak with Alarm.com. But the user will still need an alarm monitoring plan that includes access to Alarm.com. If they don't have this, then the system cannot communicate with the Alarm.com Servers, and proper monitoring service cannot be facilitated.

As for what an IQ Panel 2 can do without access to Alarm.com, well it's quite limited actually. Local Z-wave control for smart home devices is still possible, as the system has a built-in Z-Wave Plus controller. However, all operation will need to be done directly from the panel. The system can also produce local alarms and sirens if security or life-safety sensors are activated. However, the system will not send out any communication signals to alert off-site users. Instead, only those who are on-site will be alerted to any alarms or sirens. This can still be useful for local noisemaking if the user is on the property. But if they are off-site, it is very possible they will never know about the alarm event.
