Excluding the August Smart Lock Pro

In this video, Joe shows users how to exclude the August Smart Lock Pro from a Z-Wave network. This is an important step if you plan to pair the lock with a new Z-Wave network. You must access to the Z-Wave hub to do this. If you cannot access the Z-Wave hub, you must perform a Z-Wave factory reset.

Being able to include the August Smart Lock Pro with a Z-Wave network is one of the best functions of the device. Many alarm systems function as Z-Wave controllers, and it very easy to include new devices with an existing Z-Wave network. If you alarm monitoring service with access to an interactive service platform like Total Connect 2.0 or Alarm.com, then you can operate your Z-Wave devices remotely using an app on your phone. This includes your August Smart Lock Pro. This is great if you ever need to let someone inside while you are away.

But if you decide to take your August Smart Lock Pro to a different Z-Wave network, then you will have to exclude it from the current one first. Unlike most Z-Wave devices, this can only be done the Z-Wave controller that the device is paired with. Most Z-Wave devices will allow you to clear from the network using any Z-Wave hub. Instead, the August Home App is actually smart enough to know when the Smart Lock Pro is paired with a Z-Wave network. If it is, then you must use the August App to initiate the exclusion process.

The only way to access the lock settings once it is paired with the August App is to access that August Account. If you do not have access to the associated August Account, then you must replace the lock. Assuming that you do have access, then you can use the the app to clear the Z-Wave settings. If you have access to the Z-Wave controller as well, then you can perform a normal exclusion process. But if the controller is in operable or inaccessible, then the only way to clear the lock is to perform a Z-Wave factory reset. The Z-Wave factory reset can also be performed from the app.
