Using the Qolsys IQ Siren with a Honeywell LYNX Touch Panel
In this video, Jorge explains how to use the Qolsys IQ Siren with a Honeywell LYNX Touch Security Panel. The IQ Siren is a Z-Wave siren that can be used with a LYNX Touch System if an L5100-ZWAVE module is installed. However, you will need to create different scenes for this siren to work correctly.
A Honeywell LYNX Touch Alarm System does not support Z-Wave right out of the box. In order to use Z-Wave devices with the system, you must add a Honeywell L5100-ZWAVE Card. The installation is very easy to complete. You must power down the system by disconnecting the transformer and opening up the panel to remove the backup battery. With the panel opened, you can actually attach the L5100-ZWAVE to the main system board. You may need a screwdriver to complete this process.
The Qolsys IQ Siren is one of the best wireless sirens available. It is extremely versatile as a Z-Wave siren, and its 105 dB sounder is loud enough for most homes. The device also includes a built-in strobe light for providing a visual indication of alarms. However, there is one important thing to consider when using the IQ Siren with a Honeywell LYNX Touch System. The LYNX Touch Panel will actually recognize the siren as a Z-Wave light and not as a siren. Without some special configuration, the siren will not normally activate during alarm events.
Luckily, there is a work-around for this issue. What you need to do is create scenes for the device to activate during during alarm events. You will need three (3) scenes in total. One scene will tell the siren to activate during burglary alarms. Another will tell the siren to activate during fire alarms. Finally, the third scene will tell the siren to stop sounding when an alarm is cleared. You can create these scenes from the panel itself or from Total Connect 2.0. Most users find that it is easiest to create these scenes through Total Connect 2.0 instead of at the actual panel.
