Using a Qolsys IQ Panel 2 w/o Monitoring

In this video, Jorge from Alarm Grid explains how you can use a Qolsys IQ Panel 2 System without alarm monitoring service. While this will seriously limit the overall functionality of the panel, it is something that is certainly possible. By monitoring the IQ Panel 2, you can get the most out of it.

Alarm monitoring service is really important for an alarm system. This is what allows the system to communicate out. This is important for receiving notifications through text and/or email regarding any system activity. Being able to communicate out is also needed for having the system alert a central monitoring station during alarm events.

If your system does not have monitoring service, then there will be no way for you or anyone else to be alerted about any system activity that occurs while you are off-site. In other words, if there is a burglary or fire and you aren't around, then you will have no way of knowing about it until you arrive on the scene. And since a central station cannot be notified, there will also be no way for you to receive automatic emergency dispatch.

There are some ways that you can still use the Qolsys IQ Panel 2 without alarm monitoring service. The system can still serve as a local noisemaker. You can arm and disarm it, and the system can still activate its siren during alarm events. This can be useful for knowing about an emergency that occurs while you are on-site. Additionally, you can still program Z-Wave devices with the system and use the panel as a Z-Wave hub. Of course, you will have no way to control the Z-Wave devices remotely, as you will not have access to Alarm.com. You also will not be able to create any smart scenes for these devices.
