Isn't It A Pity (George Harrison, 1970-1971) Live cover performance by Bill Sharkey, Home Studio, Hawaii Kai, HI. 2022-02-22. "Keeping the Oldies Alive"

"Isn't It A Pity" by George Harrison was his very first solo release off his debut album "All Things Must Pass" as a double a-sided single with "My Sweet Lord;" both hit the #1 position on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1970 (Whitburn, 2013). Harrison had proposed the use of the song with the Beatles during a number of recording sessions but was turned down each time by the group (beatlesbible.com, 2020). Two versions of the song were recorded; version one, as performed here (shortened from the 7:10 length of the song) (allmusic.com, 2022), was the version used for the single release and had multiple known artists assisting Harrison: Badfinger members, Pete Ham, Tom Evans, Joey Molland (acoustic guitars) & Mike Gibbins (tambourine); Klaus Voorman (bass); Tony Ashton (piano); Billy Preston and Gary Wright (keyboards); Ringo Starr (drums); Harrison (all vocals & slide guitar) (beatlesbible.com, 2020).

Lyrics:

Isn't it a pity
Now, isn't it a shame
How we break each other's hearts
And cause each other pain
How we take each other's love
Without thinking anymore
Forgetting to give back
Isn't it a pity

Some things take so long
But how do I explain
When not too many people
Can see we're all the same
And because of all their tears
Their eyes can't hope to see
The beauty that surrounds them
Isn't it a pity

Isn't it a pity
Isn't is a shame
How we break each other's hearts
And cause each other pain
How we take each other's love
Without thinking anymore
Forgetting to give back
Isn't it a pity

Forgetting to give back
Isn't it a pity
Forgetting to give back
Now, isn't it a pity
Isn't it a pity
Isn't it a pity
