Hey everybody, Jonathan here from Glitz & Glam TV Productions and in this video I'm going to be talking about upgrading your camera and vlogging equipment.

Maybe you've been thinking about upgrading your camera and getting a better camera. But before you take that plunge, let me first ask you this. How is your audio? This might sound totally crazy, but did you know that high quality audio MAKES your video LOOK better?? I know it sounds crazy, but its true! I experienced this very thing when watching a video of a musician reviewing the Oktava MK-012.

The video was shot in 720p..Yes, 720p! Not 4K, not 1080p, but 720p! Yet, the video looked amazing, practically jumping off of the screen because the audio was pristine and crystal clear from that amazing microphone!

Look, I understand completely wanting to upgrade your camera, but there are things you can do to upgrade your production that aren't nearly expensive and will provide DRASTIC upgrades to your production!

I apologize if I sound like a broken record but this is something that is so often overlooked by many content creators that I feel it's necessary to talk about over and over again. Audio is the heart of every production. Unless you're making an old-fashioned Charlie Chaplin film, audio is the heart of your production. In a course I took on Audio for Television, they made a statement that has stuck with me ever since. They said, "70% of what you see is what you hear." Now, stop and think about that for a second. 70% of what you see is what you hear. From background music dictating the mood of the scene, to special effects, sound effects, to dialogue. The audio tells 70% of the story!

That should give you a good idea just how important audio is to every single production. Going back a couple of years ago when I was producing a show for a friend of mine, I received the best compliment any content creator could get. A co-worker who regularly tuned in to the show told me how crisp and clear the audio was. He told me he rarely watched the show because he'd tune in while driving to work so he'd connect to his stereo via blue tooth and just listen during his commute.

This should be the goal of every content creator. Strive to make your audio so good, that it can be enjoyed just as much listened to as it is to watch. Studies have shown that a lot of YouTube videos are consumed through listening only since people are tuning in while busy working around the house or driving to and from wherever. This bit of information tells us that we should be spending ALOT of our time focusing on the quality of our audio!

If you'd like me to create a video talking about the different audio gear I use and recommend for your videos, let me know in the comments. But what I will say is this, a lower-end camera with high quality audio is far better than a high-end camera with poor audio. Again, let me know in the comments if you'd like to see a video discussing the audio gear I recommend for your productions.

I'm going to close out this video with this thought. We are living in a fast-paced world now where technology has evolved to the point where just about any camera can get the job done. A fast-paced world where alot of people aren't watching videos because they're multi-tasking, so they wind up just listening to the videos. So tell me, where do you think YOUR upgrades should be next?

I want to thank you for tuning in, please like, subscribe, and post any questions or comments. I look forward to hearing from you! Until next time, take care and be safe!
