The Origins of Islam - 1.1 The Koran: Critical Koran Studies

This is the first re-recording of the presentation I did on Pfander Films. I've decided to go down that route because we've had some audio troubles and I wanted to have a proper version of my presentation out there. The original videos are of course still up on Pfander Films and I have created a playlist on my channel where you can watch all of them. If you want to hear Dr. Jay Smith's input, you'll have to go there as I'm going solo in these re-recordings.

In this first episode, I'm looking at the beginnings of critical Quran studies, why it started and who some of the important figures are, for example Ignaz Goldziher, Günter Lüling and Christoph Luxenberg.

The "Origin of Islam" series is intended to provide a big-picture look at how Islam started, where it came from, how it evolved and how we ended up with the religion we know of today. I'm introducing the historical critical method as it's applied to the Quran and paint a new narrative based on primary evidence and linguistic analysis.
