What Is Traditionalism?

What is Traditionalism? To answer that question we much first examine what is meant by "Tradition", American Tradition in particular. Is it sufficient to point to the Constitution, or a particular figure, and attempt to emulate them? Perhaps for the layman. But such is insufficient to deal in the modern discourse and debate between Conservative and Liberal commentators. Tradition demands a deeper understanding of not merely values and institutions, but why said values and institutions exist, so that when so-called reformers aim to change them for what truly amounts to little more than the sake of change, there is just understanding and will in the population of Traditionalists to confidently oppose this. At minimum, Traditionalism demands of a people an ability to understand that which has brought them to where they now stand, and the virtue of sacrificing the self and the now for something greater than the self which transcends our lifetimes; the ability to sustain and pass on a tradition.

The American Populist Union is a non-profit organization that advocates for reform from within the conservative movement to put family, tradition, and the common American back at the center of national policy. Unlike the conservative establishment, we recognize that the most important metric in measuring our society's success is not our GDP or profit margins, but the health of our nation's families. We are conservatives who stand for the American worker and the American family over the interests of big business and foreign entities.
