Form 1040 Presidential Campaign Funds Donation

On Page 1 of the Form 1040 tax return, the following question is posed to the taxpayer:

Presidential Election Campaign
"Check here if you, or your spouse if filing jointly, want $3 to go to this fund. Checking a box below will not change your tax or refund"

So what does this mean? Should you check the box?

By checking the box "Yes" you are allocating a portion of taxes you owe to the presidential campaign, rather than the general tax pool.

This does NOT impact the taxes you owe or your tax refund, so rest assured!
