Change in Tax Year - IRS Form 1128

If you have a domestic "C" corporation that is currently filing tax returns on a calendar year basis (January 1 to December 31), you can file a change request to change the tax year to a different period.

For example, many companies prefer to use a June 30 year-end for tax purposes because it is consistent with their financial reporting year.

Other domestic corporations use a tax period consistent with the tax years of their substantial shareholders that live in a non-U.S. jurisdiction.

For most domestic "C" corporations, a change request can be filed and will be automatically approved by the IRS.
