Support Your Stomach and Slash Worry

Oftentimes, you don't think much about your stomach unless you have a stomachache, the stomach flu, reflux or heartburn.

Your stomach's main function is to break down proteins into smaller pieces called amino acids. Amino acids are building blocks that are necessary for so many body functions. For instance, the antioxidant glutathione is made from three amino acids. You can not absorb glutathione by eating it or taking it orally.

The stomach needs plenty of stomach acid in order to break down proteins into amino acids. Your body also needs stomach acid to absorb zinc which is needed to make neurotransmitters like serotonin and to strengthen your immune system.

When you don't have enough stomach acid, the sphincter at the top of your stomach doesn't get triggered to close. Then your stomach contents reflux up into your esophagus and you get heartburn or acid reflux.

Your doctor/the medical community will tell you to take antacids or protein pump inhibitors. While this may work for a short period of time, it will disrupt your entire digestive system and make you fat, tired and depressed.

When your stomach can't break down proteins into amino acids, full proteins are able to exit your small intestine and your body doesn't recognize them. Instead of using them to make things like thyroid hormone (for metabolism and energy), glutathione and serotonin, your body attacks them because they are used to seeing amino acids, not full proteins.

This attack causes food allergies. Instead of feeling better with antacids and protein pump inhibitors like Omeprazole (Prilosec), Esomeprazole (Nexium), and Lansoprazole (Prevacid), you will feel tired, apathetic and inflamed.

Your entire digestive system will be affected and you'll wonder why you can't digest your food.
