Stay tune for updates on Omicron!

This video shows the sequenced Covid-19 variants Omicron and Delta in South Africa, weeks before and after first Omicron variant was sequenced (date range 6th September 2021 to 10th December 2021).
Also shown, the daily confirmed cases (7 days smoothed) and daily deaths (7 days smoothed), and the effective reproduction number (Rt).

Notes:
Sequences are not the same as cases. It does not represent all cases, but gives better indication of distribution over time.
The sequences are 14 days periods, and numbers between end of each period is interpolated.
As of Friday the 10th December there are no deaths attributed to Omicron (source: WHO). So, all or larger portions of deaths may be patients infected with Delta variant earlier on.
Hospitalizations caused by Omicron are of interest, but statistics are not reliable yet. About 70% of patients in SA were admitted for other reasons before testing positive for Covid-19.
