Improve Your Street Photos with Imperfection

Perfection isn’t the goal, whether you’re shooting street photography or writing a play. However, telling the best story is.
I grabbed a bunch of quick shots in Nogales, Sonora over the past few months. Many are sharp, including high contrast and rich shadows. It’s the type of single shots that ought to perform well on social media—those one off photos that wow. I also have a trunk load of blurry graining frames that have soul, which reveal the locale and who I am as a creative.
Photos have the ability to show us who we are, where we’re focused and what’s important to us as storytellers. A strong, dynamic image doesn’t have to be crisp, or hyper-sharpened. Ask any photographer, or visual creative, who worked in their industry prior to the advent of pixel count.
So get messy, blurry and allow some of your framing to break the conventions. Thus far, this playfulness has yielded me proper results and sparked excitement in my work.Show more
