God’s Chosen People - November 14, 2021
Romans chapters 9, 10 and 11 are very important to our understanding of the relationship between Israel and the Church; the relationship between God and his people. Some Christians see in these chapters a presentation of God’s sovereignty as expressed through the election of certain individuals for salvation and the election of the rest to eternal damnation. Each person’s eternal destiny is understood to be the exclusive choice of God. The involvement of human agency or free will is excluded. Others believe that what Paul is talking about in these chapters is God’s sovereignty as expressed through his choice of the terms on which salvation is offered to all. Each person’s eternal destiny is understood to depend on his free choice to accept or reject God’s offer of salvation on God’s terms. Let’s look at what Paul has to say.
