Not every thunderstorm is the same. Sometimes, developing storms need to create their own environment to enhance convection. In his time lapse clip taken over 2 hours, towering cumulus eventually broke through a layer of warm dry air and exploded into cumulonimbus clouds.

The early anvils looked impressive but weren't producing rain or lightning. However, by the end of the clip, thunderheads marked the clear transition into active storms.
