Sakurai on the Future of Super Smash Bros.

In a recent interview with Famitsu, Sakurai, the leader of the Super Smash Bros. franchise stated that he can not imagine the franchise continuing without him. After the major success with fifth installment of the series, Sakurai stated that he is currently not thinking about a sequel as of right now, and that there is a possibility that the latest entry in the series is “definitely” the last game of the Super Smash Bros. franchise.

Even if the team decides to continue the franchise, he stated that he can not see how a new entry can be produced without him involved. Even though that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate seems to be the last in the series, that does not mean that Sakurai is done making games, since he is known for making other titles such as Kid Icarus Uprising and the Kirby franchise.

Throughout the years, Nintendo has always had a new entry for every console generation since the Nintendo 64 era, and with Ultimate being the most ambitious yet with its massive roster in the history of gaming, there is always a possibility that it could be ported to newer Nintendo consoles in the future.
