Dark Web Drug Busts Lead to 150 Arrests
WHEN GERMAN POLICE took down the dark web marketplace DarkMarket in January, they did more than shutter the largest underground online drug bazaar operating at that time. They also nabbed more than 20 servers in Moldova and Ukraine, infrastructure that contained a host of information about the site’s buyers and sellers

“Operation Dark HunTOR”, a global puncture wound on the “Dark Web”, puts 150 suspects online
According to Europol, police around the world have arrested 150 suspects involved in the online sale of illegal goods in one of the largest puncture wounds in history targeting the dark web. Operation DarkHunTOR also recovered millions of euros in cash and bitcoins, as well as drugs and guns. The bust is due to German-led police destroying the “world’s largest” darknet marketplace earlier this year.
The world’s largest dark web market with 500,000 users is closed, and a man who seems to be the operator is also arrested
The dark web, which requires special software such as anonymous communication systems and Tor to access, is used by people in countries where the government is censoring the Internet to avoid censorship , and illegal drugs and malware. It is also used for various transactions. On January 12, 2021, European law enforcement agencies reportedly closed the world’s largest dark web market, DarkMarket , and arrested an Australian man believed to be the operator.

Inside the ‘DarkMarket’ Prototype, a Silk Road the FBI Can Never Seize
The Silk Road, for all its clever uses of security protections like Tor and Bitcoin to protect the site’s lucrative drug trade, still offered its enemies a single point of failure. When the FBI seized the server that hosted the market, the billion-dollar drug bazaar came crashing down. If one group of Bitcoin black market enthusiasts has their way, the next online free-trade zone could be a much more elusive target.
