"Lil' Red Riding Hood" was Sam the Sham & the Pharaohs' second and last release to hit the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart; both "Lil' Red Riding Hood" and "Wooly Bully" reached the #2 position on the chart in 1965 and 1966, respectively (Whitburn, 2013). "Lil' Red Riding Hood" is an updated version of the Charles Perrault fairly tale "Little Red Riding Hood" (last.fm, 2021; songfacts.com, 2021), and the "Sam" in the group's name is Domingo Samudio who was born in Dallas, Texas (Whitburn, 2013).
