The Cars' "Drive" was their 11th entry on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, their 3rd top ten hit rising to the #3 position, their highest charting single, and a #1 hit on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart in 1984 (billboard.com, 2021; Whitburn, 2013). The song was written by frontman guitarist Ric Ocasek, but sung by bassist Benjamin Orr (J. Shelton, songmeaningsandfacts.com, Jun. 22, 2019). Orr died of pancreatic cancer in 2000 at age 53 (apnews.com, Oct. 4, 2000).
