Makin' Whoopee (Eddie Cantor, 1929; Paul Whiteman, 1929; Ben Bernie, 1929). Live cover performance by Bill Sharkey, Home Studio, Hawaii Kai, HI. 2021-10-05. "Keeping the Oldies Alive"

"Makin' Whoopee" was written by Gus Kahn and Walter Donaldson for the musical "Whoopee" in 1928 (ibdb.com, 2021). Eddie Cantor was the star of the show and released his version of the song a year later; his version landed at the #2 position on the charts while Paul Whiteman's version rose to #8 later that year followed by Ben Bernie; his rendition hit the #16 position. The show was produced by Florenz Ziegfeld; however, Ziegfeld went broke and "had to sell the movie rights to Samuel Goldwyn and release Cantor to act as consultant and star in the film. The 1930 film, which closely follows the Broadway musical, was Cantor’s first movie and made a star of him" (jazzstandards.com, 2020).
