Kids' Tummy Problems & Fructose Intolerance

Know a child who’s experiencing unexplained tummy troubles like upset stomach, diarrhea, or excessive gas? 🤢

They might be suffering from fructose intolerance!

Fructose - a simple sugar that, alongside glucose, comprises table sugar - is found naturally in honey 🍯 and many fruits 🍎, but is also added as a sweetener to many foods and drinks. High-fructose corn syrup, for example, is a sweetener that many people are likely familiar with and have seen on food/drink labels.

Babies are not born with the ability to absorb fructose, but most children develop it as they grow older. 🧒🏻

If a child is fructose intolerant, however, their body never develops that ability - for them, ingesting fructose causes uncomfortable digestive symptoms that often go undiagnosed and unexplained for quite some time.

If this sounds familiar, try cutting foods high in fructose from the child’s diet to see if symptoms improve...if they do, it’s likely the child is suffering from an intolerance and will benefit from a low fructose diet! 🙌
