Hiking in the Sierra Nevada above Carson's Pass

Traveling between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe, I decided to stop at Carson's Pass and hike a short bit of the Pacific Crest Trail. We veered to the right and exited the trail up to the alpine zone above the pass. It was a beautiful scene. Having just traveled from sea level, we found it hard to breathe, even though it was only 8800ft.
