Chesterton was right, there is a thought that stops all other thought, and it is the thought that must be stopped. Even dear uncle Screwtape must be satisfied in his progress, for this thought which stops all other thought was not rejected by those aware of its rise but rather embraced. What is the thought you ask, what is this irreparable damage which can lead any man, woman, or entire generation down to bottomless perdition? This abomination of desolation is really quite simple: it is the belief that no one thing is greater than another, that a saint is no more good than a sinner, that nothing should be accepted as true (and indeed, as we shall study, the terrible King Nothing has been accepted as true).
