Following the California coastline from LA to Cambria

After a Memorial Day traffic jam on the 101 in Los Angeles, we exit the city and drive along the coast to Santa Barbara. From there, we drive over San Marcos Pass in the Santa Ynez Mountains. The mountains make a clear division between the dry scrubby chaparral of southern California and the rolling oak savannah of the central California foothills. The weather is clear and sunny inland and overcast at the coastline. The quick transitions from clear skies to cloudy skies and back again is remarkable to us. We arrive at our campsite near Cambria by early evening.
