The Soul of a Poet
The Soul of a Poet
It’s been said about me that I am too deep
and I realized how shallow some really are
My thoughts reach a depth unfathomable
my writings some say go too far
I am just expressing from experience
as well as from the many tales I hear
My words can make one laugh or cry
if it’s too much, don’t read them dear
I did not choose this gift of poetry
nor the color of my eyes
Writing words strung like pearls
to me came like a wonderful surprise
Inspiration is a divine gift granted
with wisdom I am emboldened to rhyme
Life is a complex tapestry woven
and yet somehow I find the time
So perhaps I just have the soul of a poet
and must write just as I must breathe
Whenever lines encroach my thoughts
it’s time for my pen to unsheathe
