In 480 B.C., King Leonidas and his 300 Spartan soldiers fought a Persian army of more than 100,000 at the battle of Thermopylae. It was a valiant effort, but the Greeks lost the battle. More than 600 years earlier, there was another battle in which Gideon and 300 Israelite soldiers stood against a Midianite army of 135,000 soldiers (Judges 8:10). But the Israelites won, because God was on their side!
