There are specific actions, obligations, expectations which Jesus has delineated we must do to realize our hope. These will components include demonstrating charity, mercy, forgiveness, and preaching. Repentance is a sub-component of forgiveness. Jesus clearly indicated to Peter and us, we, the faithful, are expected to forgive one another here on earth, while still alive, from our hearts. When we fail, we're obligated to ask our Father directly for forgiveness. This latter form of forgiveness is repentance.
