Matthew 25 Revisited 6-29-21

Matthew 25 is a remarkably interesting chapter. I believe it’s among a few which provide a precise formula for how we achieve our hope. It begins with the parable of the ten virgins and ten lamps, then moves to the Far Country parable, then to a vivid description of the end times rapture in which Jesus indicates the conditions of acceptance. Overall, it instructs us on how important it is to be prepared for the returning Jesus, and what we have to do to get prepared. As such, we not only need to establish faith but be willing to attend to the will of God as Jesus has established in multiple parables and stories, like the parables and conclusions in this chapter. The will of God components Jesus delineates, here in Matthew 25 and elsewhere, include demonstrating love to one another through acts of charity, mercy, forgiveness and preaching. And in the event we fail to demonstrate these acts of love, and we will, we are required to repent for our failures, as is established in the Lord’s Prayer, the indebted servant parable and others.
