Written by Dick Holler (Wikipedia, 2021), "Abraham Martin, & John," was a tribute to the memories of Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King, and John and Robert Kennedy who were all assassinated (last.fm, 2010). The song was originally recorded by Dion DiMuci and was his comeback hit, after being off the charts for 4 years. The song rose to #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1968 (Whitburn, 2013). Dion was quoted as saying that ""Abraham, Martin and John' was a way of reminding people that they could aspire to great things, even in the midst of tragedy and confusion” (D. Freeland, americansongwriter.com, 2010). In 1969, the song was awarded gold record status by selling five-hundred-thousand copies (RIAA.com, 2021).
