The vegan diet is fully non-animal products, honey, including eggs and dairy products. Some vegans choose the diet for health-related reasons, but others prefer it for ethical reasons, such as consuming more sustainable foods and avoiding animal cruelty.
Although there are many health advantages of a vegan diet, some find the lifestyle challenging to maintain. It is always good to consider each of the pros and cons of a vegan diet before deciding if it is the right program for you. A vegan diet also lacks iodine and choline since the two necessary nutrients from eggs. Iodine is essential to keep your thyroid healthy, metabolism, regulating energy and mood. Choline supports your brain, affecting your mood and memory.
On the lighter note, veggies like brussels sprouts, broccoli, and sweet potatoes can give choline, and you can source out iodine from fortified (iodized) table salt. Still, supplementation can be a good idea for these nutrients that your body needs too. And since plant-based foods can only provide low in calories, a vegan diet may lead to fatigue if you don't eat enough to keep your physical and mental energy up.
