Bodycam footage shows arrest of man killed in 'manner of George Floyd'

Bodycam footage has been released of California police kneeling on a gasping man who, his family says, died in the same way as George Floyd.

Mario Gonzalez, a 26-year-old father, died on April 19 after Alameda police officers restrained him on suspicion of theft.

His brother, Gerardo Gonzalez, called their actions ‘unnecessary and unprofessional’ on Tuesday, KNTV reported.

‘The police killed my brother in the same manner that they killed George Floyd,’ he said.

The family’s lawyer, Julia Sherwin, compared the police’s ‘medical emergency’ explanation of Gonzalez’s death to the police report after Floyd was murdered by Derek Chauvin in Minneapolis last year.

‘His death was completely avoidable and unnecessary,’ she added, questioning the force used by the officers. ‘Drunk guy in a park doesn’t equal a capital sentence.’
