'You insulted us' | Pakistani reporters boycott presser after minister is late
The ‘mic drop’ is out, the ‘mic snatch’ is back.
Reporters in Pakistan staged a walkout at a presser, after the minister that was supposed to be getting pressed pulled a Madonna and arrived two hours late. The journalists in Jhelum, Punjab calmly informed the minister of their disapproval. Then, one by one, they removed their microphones before Malik Muhammad Anwar, Punjab minister for revenue, had a chance to speak.
It wasn’t just Anwar’s diva behavior that prompted the boycott, as the media members were also unhappy with the government’s alleged corruption.
Riaz Gondal, one of the reporters at the boycott, could be heard saying to Anwar, ‘Corruption in Jhelum is at a peak, all the government officials are looting the people in the name of welfare.’
He continued: ‘Now as you did not come on time and we have been waiting for the last two hours, you insulted us, so we are boycotting your presser.’
