20210312 Paying the Piper - The Daily Summation

When I was a good deal younger, finances were mysterious to me.

These days, I understand them a good deal better.

You have some fairly simple choices. You can spend what you have, or try to get others to loan you money with the idea of paying them back.

When you do the second, YOU are a "deficit spender."

The same is true for business, and for countries.

Business can raise prices, increasing their buying power in the process (IF the market will bear it).

That said, neither individuals NOR BUSINESSES can LEGALLY PRINT MONEY.

Governments have that as a possibility. That doesn't mean doing so is smart (it can be in the right circumstances, but it's often not true).

Whether it's taxing those who can pay, printing money, or borrowing from other countries, it makes next to NO sense for countries to do anything if the need is not pretty great.

I talk about this and more in this edition of The Daily Summation from Kurt's Religion and Politics.

When I'm able to complete the companion article on the Kurt's Religion and Politics blog, I'll post a link to it here.
