San Juan River in February - Off color water - McFly Angler Episode 42

Fishing in winter can be tough. Many places around the country are frozen over, or just not fishable. But there are still fish to be had when fishing on the San Juan River. In fact, this is one of my favorite times of year to fish this river, due to the fact that it is less crowded. Also the water is off color, and therefor you can up the size of your fly slightly and not have to fish the really tiny stuff like size 26. Now you can fish a size 20-22 midge/annelid pattern.

So this was not just a fishing trip, it was a test for a new reel, the Piscifun Sword 2. I do really like the reel. Unfortunately I didnt have any big fish today, so no chance to test the drag. But, it did feel solid, and seems like a great reel, I am really happy with it. If you wanna buy this reel, here is a link to purchase it. Its only $66 for the 5/6 size, and less for the smaller version. A great price for a fully machined reel.

So overall, while I didn't catch anything large, I had a great time fishing with Jeff. He caught some really nice fish! And also was a lot of fun to fish with.
