The Brown Family Workshop how I film my driving videos, 2021

I’ve been asked how I shoot these driving videos. So here you go, I use a GoPro Hero 8 camera with a Gopro suction cup mount mounted on the front wind shield. My earlier videos had the camera mounted inside the truck. Mounted that way, you can see the chips and dings in the windshield, you are looking through the windshield tint, you can see the reflections of the dashboard and you can too easily see the bugs on the front windshield. Right now I mount the suction cup up above the windshield wiper path, and use my cell phone as the video monitor / remote control. I also run a USB cable up through the sunroof to plug into the camera for unlimited battery life. I also tie a small rope onto the suction cup running into the truck “just in case” the suction cup loses its grip, I can still retrieve the camera. I’ve used this setup on sunny, rainy, snowy days and at freeway speeds for a few hours without any issues. I still have to figure out how to keep water drops off of the small lens. I’m going to try Rain-ex, or some hydroscopic spray, I just haven’t gotten there yet. Because I plug in a USB power cable, I leave the side door off. I see that you can get a replacement door with a USB plug cutout for about $13.00, but I haven’t picked one up yet. After running the cable and rope through the sunroof, I close the sunroof again, it hasn’t damaged the cable at all, nor has any water come into the sunroof while I’m driving.
I hope this helps any of you out there with your videos. Please let me know what your setups are, and if you have improved upon what I did.

If you like the video, please click on the like button to let me know I should make more like this. And hit the subscribe button if you want to keep informed of when I put out new videos. I generally put out a new video on Monday, Wednesday and Friday every week.
