A new day is dawning, coming home from a long business trip spending too many days in an airport. The driver is I charge, you can sit back and relax, enjoy the view, if you can keep your eyes open. Your mind flitters on that thin line between sleep and awake. You are aware, but just barely. Your eyes are cloudy and unfocused, head heavy, body limp, so comfortable that you can feel your heart beating slowly in your ears. The Disneyland Storybook Land Ride was a fun and relaxing ride, a gentile boat ride, with a number of miniature dioramas from famous Disney stories. The boat guide guides you through the different lands with interesting stories about the characters. Ok, ok.. Overall it was a boring ride, but it gave us the chance to sit down and relax by the cool water and be entertained with stories we’d all grown up with. Except for my wonderful wife Thao and Sofia which had never head most of the stories before. For them, it was an exciting ride. Enjoy, and let me know what you think. Flying around the desolation of the desert, and all of the sudden Southern Dunes Golf Course appears. I’m only the editor of these videos. Driving down the highway, I see the sun starting to rise. Great time for some sunrise footage, so I pullout the cell phone, sit it on the ledge outside the driver’s side window and take a quick nap. Don’t try to focus, just enjoy the light show. This is from the train system at the phoenix airport, if you really must know. Riding a giant swan swing, shopping in all of the arts and crafts stores, enjoying live music and eating great food is all a part of this incredible place. The Arizona Renaissance Festival, is a really cool place to take the family for the day. You can dress yourself up in period costumes, or just watch others that dress up for the occasion. Old meets new, the past meets the present here at the Arizona Renaissance Fair. We saw great carnival rides, with a twist. Running on Human power. Guys and ladies dressed in period attire were turning the hubs in the middle, or spinning the cranks to get these rides moving. It was really a weird feeling, seeing these rides power up silent. NO blaring music, NO constant hum or PFFT, sounds of hydraulics. In my opinion, this alone made the Festival worth going to, just to see these rides, while selling the same chairs at a different booth. Great marketing!! Jousting!! Cool sounding event, it brings thoughts of knights of old skewering each other with long pikes over the love of a fair damsel. The Arizona Renaissance Festival has live jousting, with the exception of guys getting skewered. Yes, it’s all show, but still fun to watch. It reminds me of a movie from the 90’s called “A Knights Tale” fantastic movie to watch, classic movie with a modern soundtrack. The female voice is from that wonderful lady sitting on the horse. Trying something new here. I didn’t make this video, I just edited it for a friend. We wanted to see how well videos like this would do, so here’s our first try. Flying over Maricopa Arizona in a Paraglider getting a different view from what you are used to. Maricopa is a fairly rural town south of Phoenix, specializing in a number of crops, growing and harvesting year round, the number one crop being cotton in the fall. My friend can’t fly over houses, busy streets or any large gathering, but he can give us a fantastic impression of what it’s like to fly with the birds. Driving at the bottom of this hill looking up the hill reminded me of Fences in early Europe. In areas like Ireland and France. The farmers would pick large rocks out of their field while plowing and move them to the edge of the field forming a fence. I wonder if someone could have been doing that here. Most of these rocks are easily bigger than my truck, some bigger than my house. Just a random thought. The valley around me is perfectly flat with no rocks in sight, while these hills look like someone placed the boulders here with a purpose. Let me know what you think in the comments section below. Arizona’s Renaissance Festival is the largest event of its type I’ve ever seen, There’s a great deal of shopping if you want to totally immerse yourself into a character, that you can design. Unlike video games these costumes cost real money, but offer you the ability to be anything you want to be. My wonderful wife wanted to see what the shops were like before going on to see the jousting, so we indulged her a bit with window shopping. The Arizona Renaissance festival in the town of Gold Canyon was a great trip for us this year. We’d never been to this renaissance fair before, but we went to one in Seattle a couple of times. This was huge, compared to the Seattle event. It was very well laid out with period type buildings and laid out to look like a medieval town. Many people showed up all dressed up in their costumes. The festival has vendors show up every year selling their Renaissance themed wares, with Jousting, Sword fights, wandering minstrels and human powered rides!. Ok, not really at high speeds, I just sped up the video to make it look extreme. I am driving faster than I should and getting knocked around a lot, but it’s great fun. In the fall the rains come. Arizonan’s call it the “Monsoon season” to me it’s just hard rain for a few hours, sun, then more rain. The problem around here is that the ground doesn’t absorb the rain, it finds the lowest spots and pools or flows rapidly, turning dust into mud and dragging it all to the lowest spot. My sweet wife Thao and I were going out for a Sunday drive a few weeks ago. We were going to the town of Goodyear, but had to use a mapping program to get us there. We were going to a nice place so we took her fancy sedan, instead of my sturdy truck. Driving down the highway, Thao says Take a Right turn, right here. We turned Right off of the highway into the middle of nowhere, a “dirt road” is a better term for what she said was the back street we should take. “sweety, we shouldn’t take this road with your fancy car.” “No, no, it’ll be fine, the map program says this way is a lot faster. “ You can see the road in this video. After 5 minutes of nasty road for a sedan, I finally find out from Thao that this route will save us 5 minutes total time, and it’s 40 miles long. But we’re now driving at about ten miles an hour, where we were driving at least the speed limit of 55 miles an hour on the highway we’d turned off of. I stopped and turned around.. BUT!!! I had to share this fantastic road with you guys! I drove the entire route, it took over 2 hours in my truck because of the heavily deteriorated road. GREAT drive! I love this highway. Highway 238 between Maricopa and Gila Bend. There are big dips in the road to alleviate water runoff during “monsoon” season, and interesting twists and turns. A train follows the highway on the right, while a mountain range borders most of the highway on the Left. We’re in a long shallow valley with plenty of cactuses, scrub brush and interesting wildlife from time to time. Let me know what you think in the comments section below.
