Liberty Enlightening the World, commonly known as the Statue of Liberty, situated on Liberty Island ... that was dedicated on October 28, 1886 ... and designated as a National Monument in 1924. Employees of the National Park Service have been caring for the awe-inspiring copper statue since 1933.
The former immigration station at Ellis Island which opened in 1892 and closed in 1954 ... became part of the Statue of Liberty National Monument by proclamation of President Lyndon Johnson in 1965.
