Washington: Wild sunflowers and Stonehenge 2015
The Stonehenge WW1 Monument in Goldendale is a great destination for a day trip from Seattle, If you haven’t tried it before, you’ll see the real Washington state, The farmland, the producers of fruits, Vegetables, grain and meat for not only Washington state, but the rest of the country and the world. You’ll drive through deserts, mountain passes, and the luscious bread basket of Washington State. You’ll see wine country, rolling hills, jagged cliffs of basalt, hundred acre vineyards placed side by side, by side.
The Stonehenge World war 1 monument was built by a survivor of that war from Goldendale that lost most of his friends in that war. He built the monument to honor his friends. It’s a beautiful monument located on a hill overlooking the Columbia river, the natural border with Oregon state.
Along the way, I pulled over on the side of the road to rest a bit and came across a stream. I stayed to take pictures there for a bit and was impressed with what I saw there. What a beautiful place.
Heading back to Seattle, there is a turnout, a highway overlook of the Ellensburg town and valley. I stopped to try some night photography for a bit. I set the camera on a tripod, set a long exposure and zoomed the lens out while taking the picture, then I wiggled the lens ever so slightly. I hope you liked the results, and I hope it inspires you to go out and experiment with your camera a bit. You can get very impressive results with little effort.
The Stonehenge monument wasn’t the subject of this slideshow. It was just the destination for the day. The really impressive thigs happened along the way. I took over 2,000 pictures that day. Many very impressive pictures of the rolling hills and wind farms in Goldendale that I’ll pack into another video soon. Some free advice to remember. You shouldn’t just focus on the destination, but also learn to enjoy the journey. Sometimes little stops along the way will be more meaningful than the destination itself.
