Dump Truck and 18 Wheeler Accident, BARNUM, February 4, 2021 - At approximately 1:05 pm on February 4, 2021, a Polk County dump truck (Commissioner Precinct 3), driven by Joshua Moreno, 28, of Shepherd, was east-bound on FM-287 East. Moreno slowed down to make a left turn onto Barnum Boulevard when an east-bound 18 wheeler (hauling wood shavings) driven by Zacovy Gibson, 45, of Lufkin, swerved left to avoid striking the dump truck. Gibson overcorrected right and clipped the driver's side front end of Moreno's vehicle as he was passing Moreno. Gibson's vehicle then cut left and turned over in the grass on the left side of the pavement. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Corrigan Volunteer Fire Department and Troopers Donny Akers and Colton McQuilkin with the Texas Highway Patrol. Gibson was transported by ambulance to CHI Lufkin with undisclosed injuries. Moreno sustained bumps and bruises but was otherwise okay. Traffic on 287 was partially blocked during investigation and cleanup. Gibson was cited in the accident. A heavy duty wrecker from Clifton Chevrolet out of Corrigan recovered the dump truck. The 18 wheeler was recovered by Due's Wrecker Service out of Lufkin.
