This bar chart race shows the Human Development Index (HDI) from 1980 to 2018. By country, highest (1) and lowest (0).

Definition of HDI: A composite index measuring average achievement in three basic dimensions of human development—a long and healthy life, knowledge and a decent standard of living. See Technical note 1 at http://hdr.undp.org/sites/default/files/hdr2019_technical_notes.pdf for details on how the HDI is calculated.

Notes:
The time series is 1980,1985, and from 1990 each year.
Some very few countries are not included. Like Somalia.
Data for Afghanistan the years 1990-2001 are excluded.
