Vietnam: Marble Mountain 2019
The Vietnamese city of Da Nang is mostly flat, with a couple of huge spikes coming out of nowhere.
These are the Marble Mountains, centuries old, with water carved caves throughout. It has been used as a Buddhist temple and sanctuary for centuries. The locals mine the Marble for material to make beautiful statues along with decorative tiles.
The cave was very large and very dark. Not wanting to use a flash, I did the best I could to bring you an idea of just how creepy this cave really was. There were large chambers in the cave. Large enough to hold hundreds of people, with a water carved shaft to the top of the mountain turned into a staircase to get to the outside for a view. The Tourist Bureau decided to install a pair of elevators on the outside to allow tourists an easy ride up to witness the best view in all of Da Nang. There are Tourist shops outside of the cave entrance selling small statues, but there are much better shops throughout the city that sell better quality and larger statues. Our bus tour took us to one of these nicer shops to see the statues.
