The Boshin War was over. Emperor Meiji enacted a series of reforms as the newly-established Empire of Japan began to modernize to catch up with the western world. The samurai class is brought to heel and Saigo Takamori, a samurai from Satsuma, is having second thoughts about the Empire he fought to establish in the first place. In a few years, Japan would fight against their own heroes and founders in the last stand of the samurai.
