Tennin - The Japanese Angels (History & Lore)

When Christian missionaries visited Japan, they needed Japanese terms to refer to concepts and beings of the Christian reality. When it came to the concept of angels, they asked around about winged guardian women sent as messengers from heaven. The term they received from the Japanese was "Tenshi." But who are the Tenshi, or more commonly, the Tennin? Today, we take a look at these Japanese Buddhist creatures.
